Since 1994, the RUNES have performed and recorded predominantly in Austin,
Texas. The RUNES started out as a coffee house acoustic ensemble for
singer/songwriters and artists and developed into a very entertaining performing
rock band and finally, morphed into the eclectic group of recording artists they
remain to this day.
'We try to make our money now with the soundtrack stuff and
the licensing. We don't worry too much about the unit sales', says Matt
Kjeldsen, the reluctant leader of the quintet. The RUNES have managed to
retain complete control of the content and direction of their music and their
careers. 'We would, of course, love to be loved by the world, but there's
a price to be paid for that and I don't think any of us wants to ante up', added
Kjeldsen. The members of the RUNES have managed to stay together as a
group while pursuing other avenues, both musically and financially. 'We're
cohesive', reasoned Kjeldsen, 'we like each other and there is complete respect
within our circle for what each person and everyone, collectively, brings to the
table. As a writer, I don't think I could ask for a better situation or a
more talented group of people with which to work'.
The Runes are currently restricted to the studio, producing
recordings and music for media. The band's final CD is already in the works.
Matt Kjeldsen is still writing and producing his own music to this day.
